Pressing your seam
An essential step when piecing fabrics is to press each seam after stitching. Usually this is pressing with the toe of the iron rather than ironing and without using steam. There are a number of special irons available for small seams. An established method is to press both seams towards the darker fabric and then again on the wrong side. For some patterns it is better to press the seams open to reduce the bulk of fabric, such as the centre of a star block. When stitching strip blocks, the seams should all be pressed the same wat on each block for one row and the other way for the next row.
